Barcelona head coach Hans-Dieter Flick shared his thoughts after the 2-1 defeat to Real Sociedad in the 20th round of the Spanish La Liga. According to the German specialist, the team's performance on the field and the scoreboard did not match at all.
Flick didn't hide that he was in a bad mood after this match:
"I'm disappointed. We played well, created many chances, but the result didn't match the game. Sometimes you do everything right, but it turns out that not everything is on your side. In some episodes, it was necessary to act more confidently in defense. But this is football. At the same time, I am satisfied with the team's actions today," Flick's words were quoted by Marca.
Indeed, looking at the game situation, Barcelona tried to hold the initiative more in their hands and be active in attacks. But the bitter truth of football is: creating opportunities is not enough - you need to be able to convert them into goals and not forgive mistakes in decisive moments. Flick is emphasizing precisely this point: it might have been done right, but the small details, for a moment or two, changed the fate of the entire game.
Nevertheless, the situation in the tournament table is still in Barça's favor. After 20 rounds, the Catalans hold the top spot in La Liga with 49 points. Real Sociedad sits in 9th place with 24 points.
Now the main task for Barcelona is simple: to quickly draw conclusions without prolonging the defeat and eliminate minor "breaks" in defense in subsequent rounds. In the championship race, even a single deflection is costly, so Flick's "more reliable defense" could become a decisive factor in upcoming matches.
