The editorial board of “France Football” is reportedly discussing the issue of restoring one of the rarest awards in the football world — the “Super Ballon d’Or”. This was reported by the portal “The Touchline”.
According to reports, the award is planned to be presented again exactly 40 years after it was first awarded, that is in 2029. This will certainly generate great interest among football fans.
It is said that the prize will be given to the best footballer of the last 30 years. As it was at the end of the 1980s, the nominees will be selected among footballers who have won the Ballon d’Or several times.
Looking at history, the only “Super Ballon d’Or” was awarded in 1989 to Alfredo Di Stéfano. At that time the legend of Real Madrid finished ahead of Johan Cruyff and Michel Platini in the voting.
Interestingly, until 2021 this unique trophy was kept in the club museum of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. Later it was put up for auction and sold for 187 thousand pounds sterling.
If the “Super Ballon d’Or” is awarded again in 2029, the football community will once again have the opportunity to compare stars of different generations to determine the greatest footballer of the last thirty years. This may lead not only to debates but also to great interest and discussion.
