Warehouse for Ronaldo and Messi's jerseys opens in Amsterdam

The MatchWornShirt warehouse near Amsterdam houses a collection of jerseys worn on the pitch by the world's most famous football players. Here, one can find shirts worn by Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid and Lionel Messi at PSG. Additionally, a jersey belonging to Atletico forward Julian Alvarez, still bearing mud and grass stains from a recent match, is being prepared for auction. Goal.com reports on the facility.

According to the company's founder, Tijmen Zonderwijk, every jersey is considered a piece of art with its own unique history. For instance, a shirt worn by Ousmane Dembele in a match against Liverpool has been put up for auction starting at 2,000 pounds sterling. During the 2022 World Cup, Frenkie de Jong's jersey set a platform record by being sold for 11,000 euros.

The company's operations are expected to expand further during the 2026 World Cup. Thirteen official partner national teams, including England, Portugal, Germany, and the USA, will provide their jerseys. Following the matches, the shirts will be sent to a hub in Dallas, where experts will verify their authenticity.

Interestingly, each jersey passes through a special "DNA-erasing" machine. This technology was implemented at the request of Real Madrid to protect the players' personal data. This method completely removes biological traces from the garment without damaging its match-worn condition.
