Villas-Boas and Mourinho maintained friendship despite rivalry

The rivalry between Porto club president Andre Villas-Boas and Benfica head coach Jose Mourinho is not hindering their long-standing friendship. The former colleagues, who are competing for the Portuguese championship, continue to communicate while maintaining mutual respect. Goal.com reports on this.
Villas-Boas and Mourinho worked together for a long time. They won many domestic and international trophies at Porto, Chelsea, and Inter clubs.

Villas-Boas served as a specialist for analyzing opponents on Mourinho's staff for seven years.
Currently, they represent two of Portugal's fiercest rival clubs. According to Villas-Boas, Porto fans had the opportunity to show Mourinho proper respect before he signed a contract with Benfica.

“Now he is the Benfica coach and we exchange messages from time to time. Each of us respects the interests of our club, because we are both fighting for one goal — the championship,” said Villas-Boas.
At the moment, Porto leads the league table with 76 points and is seven points ahead of third-placed Benfica. The team led by Mourinho will take the field on Sunday in an important match against second-placed Sporting.
