In an interview with SER, Bartomeu admitted that the club was in a difficult position after Neymar left for Paris for 222 million euros. According to him, Neymar's departure was an unexpected blow to the team, and the management did not want him to leave.
Kylian Mbappé, who was shining for Monaco at the time, became one of Barcelona's main targets. The club held negotiations for both Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé simultaneously, but the final decision was left to the coaching staff.
The former president noted that the coaching staff chose Ousmane Dembélé. For this reason, Barcelona preferred to sign the French winger, reaching a 105 million euro deal with Borussia Dortmund.
