Michel Platini supports Kylian Mbappe's political views

French football legend Michel Platini has defended national team captain Kylian Mbappe's warning regarding the rise of right-wing forces in the country. While the former UEFA president approved of the Real Madrid star's social stance, he also offered firm advice on the responsibilities and risks such high-profile statements can entail. This is reported by Goal.com reports .
Mbappe recently caused a stir by expressing deep concern over the possibility of right-wing candidates winning the elections in France. Although this move was criticized by politicians, Platini defended the striker's right to participate in open debates. However, the former player emphasized that personal views must be kept strictly separate from national team duties.
In an interview with RTL, Platini said: “It is right for Kylian Mbappe to express his position when he is not wearing the captain's armband or the France national team jersey. If he is in Madrid or elsewhere, he can certainly voice his political opinions. But in the national team kit, you play for the entire French nation, so it is difficult to choose a side in this situation.”
Platini also praised the intellectual potential of modern players. “It is good that intelligent people have their own opinions on social issues. Players are not stupid; some of them are very smart. One must understand that as soon as you express a position, half the world will be unhappy with you. You must be ready for this only if you fully believe in what you say. I think Kylian is doing just that,” he added.
Now, Mbappe must put political debates aside and focus on his performance on the pitch. The team led by Didier Deschamps is preparing for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The France national team will compete in Group I against opponents such as Senegal, Iraq, and Norway. The captain will strive to silence political critics through his excellent form and lead 'Les Bleus' to victory.
