Interim Italy coach urges end to Guardiola dreams

Interim Italy coach Silvio Baldini has sharply criticized the country's football management, warning the federation against chasing unattainable goals. The experienced specialist expressed dissatisfaction with systemic issues and called on local leadership to restructure the system. This is reported by Goal.com reports .

Gennaro Gattuso resigned after failing to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Alongside names like Antonio Conte, unattainable candidates such as Pep Guardiola and Cesc Fabregas are being mentioned for the vacant position. Baldini emphasized that instead of such dreams, focus should be placed on realistic specialists.

"Italian football is in the hands of managers who think only of their own interests rather than the development of the game. They focus on trading older players instead of youth. I call such people 'frauds,' and they often hold the reins of the game. Until serious leaders arrive, this problem will continue," Baldini said at a press conference.

Dismissing talk of Pep Guardiola, who achieved decade-long success with Manchester City, or Cesc Fabregas, who led Como to the Champions League, the coach stated that Italy has enough skilled personnel. He believes there are local coaches capable of giving the team a strong identity and hopes the new specialist will see him as a useful resource rather than an obstacle.

The Italian Football Federation must appoint a permanent coach quickly to avoid further stagnation. For now, the team will play friendly matches against Luxembourg and Greece. These matches will serve as an important testing ground for players to shape their tactical identity before the new regime officially begins.
