Apple plans to mark the milestone year of 2027 — the 20th anniversary of the iPhone — in a special way. According to South Korea’s ETNews, the company has decided to change its usual numbering pattern and skip the iPhone 19 series altogether, the outlet reported.
According to Omdia analyst Ho Mu-Yeol, Apple made this decision to emphasize the symbolic significance of the brand’s history while also reflecting a new stage from an aesthetic point of view. In other words, the company will skip the number “19” and go straight to the anniversary model labeled “20.”
This is not a first for Apple. Back in 2017, the company took a similar approach: instead of releasing an iPhone 9, it marked the 10th anniversary of the original iPhone by introducing the iPhone 8 and iPhone X models simultaneously. That move once again showed that the brand values symbolism and marketing impact over strict numerical order.
Experts say Apple will once again grab the spotlight of the tech world with this bold and emotional step. The iPhone 20 is expected to become not only an anniversary edition but also one of the most revolutionary devices in the company’s history — featuring a new design and enhanced intelligence.
