Social media now warns children about health

The state of New York now requires social media platforms to display warnings that “infinite use” and autoplay videos may harm users’ mental health. This was announced by Governor Kathy Hochul.

According to Hochul, the law is aimed at protecting children from spending too much time on social media. She compared the warnings to health risk labels on tobacco products.

The law applies in New York, and each violation can result in a fine of up to $5,000. It allows monitoring platforms that may harm young users.

Concerns about children’s mental health are growing worldwide. For example, in Australia, social media is banned for children under 16, and California has introduced similar laws.
