Steam sets a new record: 41.8 million users

Valve’s digital distribution platform, Steam, has once again proven that global PC gaming continues to grow. According to SteamDB, the number of users online at the same time surpassed 41.8 million, setting a new record.
Key facts and figures:
Total online:41.8 million users (active on the platform).
In-game:Of those, 13.4 million were directly inside a game.
Trend:In January 2024, this figure stood at 33 million. That means the audience has grown by nearly 10 million people in two years.
Pre-pandemic period:In early 2020 (before COVID-19), the peak was only around 19 million.
Over the past five years, Steam’s user count has increased by more than 20 million. This indicates the growth is not just a temporary “stay-at-home” effect from the pandemic, but a long-term, steady rise in interest in PC games.
