Zendesk Acquires Forethought AI Leader

Zendesk has announced the acquisition of Forethought, an innovative startup specializing in AI-powered customer service automation. The deal, expected to close by the end of March, brings together two companies focused on improving customer experiences through technology. Reports Techcrunch.com.
Forethought stood out early in the AI space, winning the prestigious TechCrunch Battlefield competition in 2018, years before tools like ChatGPT gained popularity. The company built a strong reputation by serving major clients including Upwork, Grammarly, Airtable, and Datadog, eventually handling more than a billion customer interactions each month by 2025.
Founded more than seven years ago, Forethought aimed to show how artificial intelligence could transform customer service. Co-founder and chairman Deon Nicholas described the acquisition as a key milestone, noting that AI agents are now reshaping not just customer experience but many industries worldwide.
Zendesk plans to support Forethought's current customers while integrating its advanced technology into its own products. This includes developing more specialized AI agents, self-improving systems, voice automation, and greater autonomy. The move is said to speed up Zendesk's product development by over a year.
Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed. Forethought had previously raised 115 million dollars from various investors. Zendesk itself was taken private in a 10.2 billion dollar deal in 2022.
