Firestorm raises $82 million for drone factories in containers

Defense startup Firestorm Labs has raised $82 million in investment to create drone manufacturing factories inside shipping containers. The company's total funding has reached $153 million. Techcrunch.com reports this.

The San Diego-based company developed a mobile manufacturing platform called xCell. Using this system, drones can be printed directly on the battlefield in less than 24 hours.

Each xCell container is equipped with an industrial-grade 3D printer from HP. It produces the drone's body and shell, while weapon systems are installed separately.

Company CEO Dan Magy noted that traditional factories become easy targets. Mobile containers solve logistical problems and allow the military to adapt quickly.

Currently, two xCell units are being tested by the U.S. Air Force. The startup plans to launch full operational activities in the Indo-Pacific region within the next two years.
