Sam Altman responds to Elon Musk's lawsuit against OpenAI

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has testified for the first time in a lawsuit filed by his former co-founder Elon Musk against the company's corporate structure. Musk accuses OpenAI leadership of 'hijacking' the non-profit organization and turning it into a for-profit entity. Altman denied these allegations, emphasizing that the company has created one of the world's largest charitable organizations and that its work is vital for humanity. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reports .
During the court proceedings, Altman recalled a tense situation that occurred in 2017. At that time, while discussing the funding of artificial intelligence models, Elon Musk suggested that if he were to die, control of OpenAI should pass to his children. Altman noted that he was concerned by this proposal, as the company was founded on the principle of not concentrating AI in the hands of a single individual.
Altman also emphasized that Musk's management style was not suitable for a research laboratory. According to him, Musk's demand to rank employees and fire them caused serious long-term damage to the company's culture. Altman portrayed himself as a defender of the work of co-founders such as Greg Brockman and Ilya Sutskever.
OpenAI Board Chair Bret Taylor commented on the company's restructuring and financial matters. He stated that difficulties in liquidating company shares were resolved through the latest restructuring in 2025. The main debate in court centers on whether safety issues have been sidelined as the company's commercial power has grown.
