Solar activity has reached its highest point in the last 10,000 years

Scientists have made significant progress in the field of solar archaeology, managing to determine the Sun's activity level over the last 10,000 years. According to Sergey Bogachev, head of the laboratory at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, our star is currently at its peak activity phase. This is reported by Ixbt.com .

Researchers reconstructed the historical landscape by studying the traces left by past solar flares on Earth. Like conventional archaeology, this method allows for understanding the processes that occurred on the Sun hundreds and thousands of years ago. The data obtained shows that the current level of activity is extremely high on a 10,000-year scale.

It also became known that solar activity sometimes "freezes" for decades. For example, during the Maunder Minimum in the early 18th century, solar activity dropped sharply, which was accompanied by intense cooling on Earth. Scientists note that such events are not rare and repeat periodically.

Recall that earlier, astronomers predicted that the next period of declining solar activity would be observed by 2030. The current high activity phase continues to impact space weather and Earth's magnetic field.
