Erin Brockovich launches fight against data center secrecy

Renowned environmental activist Erin Brockovich has embarked on a new mission: to increase transparency regarding the construction of data centers and their impact on local communities. Brockovich, who gained fame through her lawsuit against Pacific Gas & Electric and the film starring Julia Roberts, recently launched a website featuring a map of data centers across the US. This is reported by Techcrunch.com reports .
The website describes the map as a "work in progress," incorporating data centers reported by local residents. In a Substack post, Brockovich stated that after requesting reports on data center issues in April, she received nearly 4,000 submissions in the first month alone.
"More than noise, water usage, or rising utility bills, the biggest concern is transparency," the activist writes. She notes that this word is repeated frequently in most of the submissions. Residents complain that they do not have enough information about the projects.
Brockovich added that she is not entirely against data centers or AI technologies, but criticizes the way these projects are implemented. She is fighting a system where projects are announced only after permits are obtained, developers do not respond to calls, and local officials sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) before neighbors even know about the project.
