Kalshi Demands Netflix Remove New Documentary Trailer

Popular prediction markets platform Kalshi has issued an official complaint against streaming giant Netflix. In its legal demand, the company requested the immediate removal of the trailer for Netflix's documentary "Instadocs: The Prediction Games". Kalshi representatives stated that the video material is defamatory, featuring falsified documents and misleading information. This was reported by Techcrunch.com reports .

"The Prediction Games" documentary focuses on the development of prediction markets and the lives of key players in the industry. According to Netflix, the project includes exclusive interviews with Polymarket head Shayne Coplan and Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour. However, the controversial trailer features a party scene in Las Vegas where young men boast about making millions of dollars through the FIFA World Cup.

Fake bets and legal conflicts

A shot in the trailer shows one of the guests displaying a USD 5,000 bet placed via the Kalshi app on their phone. The issue is that a court order currently prohibits Kalshi from operating in Nevada (where Las Vegas is located). The company calls this footage "falsified" because it creates a false impression among users that Kalshi is somehow bypassing the law and providing services in a restricted area.

In its letter, Kalshi proved that the screenshot shown was actually taken on May 16, 2025, long before the ban came into effect. However, Netflix used editing to present this event as having occurred in July 2026. This is considered a misleading situation that could damage the company's reputation among its millions of subscribers.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix representatives claim that no footage in the documentary was falsified. A spokesperson for the streaming service confirmed that the footage was filmed on July 17, 2026, at the Winible World Cup event in Las Vegas. They believe that the screenshot voluntarily shown by the trader and the issue regarding its date are solely a matter between the user and the app.

Competition and security between platforms

This conflict arises at a time when prediction markets are under strict regulation in the US. Platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket allow users to place bets on political events, sports competitions, and economic indicators. Following the surge in popularity of such services, regulatory authorities are attempting to restrict their operations.

Kalshi representatives stated they contacted Netflix employees and reached an agreement to remove the shot from the final version of the film. However, the controversial scene is still present in the trailer looping on the Netflix app's home page. The company views this as an inexplicable refusal and has stated its readiness to defend its rights through the courts.
