Waymo Opens Its Robotaxi Service to Everyone in Dallas

Waymo, the autonomous vehicle company owned by Alphabet, has removed the waitlist for its robotaxi service in Dallas, Texas. According to ixbt.com, the service is now available without restrictions to city residents and visitors. TechCrunch.com reports .

According to information released by Waymo on Tuesday, any user can download the dedicated mobile app and immediately request an autonomous taxi. The move is the company’s next major step toward expanding its self-driving technology across the United States, the United Kingdom and Europe.

Service Launch and Partnerships

Waymo has been operating in Dallas since last year. Initially, the company began testing its technology on public roads and announced plans to officially launch the service in 2026. A temporary waitlist was used during the initial phase, and nearly 150,000 passengers used the service after it opened to the public in February.

The company partners with Avis Budget Group to manage its fleet. Avis handles charging, maintenance and depot operations for the fully electric Jaguar I-Pace autonomous vehicles. Waymo has successfully used the same approach in other major markets, including Phoenix, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Future Plans and Weather Conditions

Passengers cannot yet travel to Dallas Love Field Airport by robotaxi. Company representatives say testing of self-driving vehicles is continuing at the airport, and service on this route is expected to become available in the near future.

Waymo also faced some challenges during the early stages of its operations in Dallas. In May, heavy rain and flooded roads temporarily suspended service in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Atlanta. Although robotaxi operations have resumed in these cities, the company noted that it may adjust or temporarily suspend its service in response to severe weather and real-time conditions. Users can monitor the service status through the Waymo app.
