According to ixbt.com, the app was founded by old-school friends David Stemler and Ryan Hunsan, who share a passion for travel. The idea first emerged when Stemler visited the British Museum. While using the museum’s official app, he realized he was tired of comparing numbers on the walls with lists on his phone screen. He then called Hunsan from the airport and wondered why, if a phone in your pocket knows exactly where you are, your surroundings could not tell their own story.

Global Coverage and Interactive Features

The startup has now built a global foundation of nearly 1.3 million points of interest across 177 countries. In addition to basic information, historians, museums, content creators, and various brands can add their own stories to the map. Users can discover these stories while moving around a city or browse and explore the map remotely.

The app also supports an interactive question-and-answer feature designed to recreate the atmosphere of a traditional guided tour. For example, while learning about Rome’s famous Trevi Fountain, users can ask where its water comes from and receive a direct answer through AI. This turns an ordinary trip into a genuine history lesson.

Wrinkles is more than an informational tool; it also offers social features. The app allows users to follow friends, family members, and various organizations, save interesting places they discover, share them with others, and create custom maps.
