Conditions in the pre-trial detention center for minors were analyzed

The Children's Ombudsman, as part of the next monitoring visit, examined the conditions of minors held in pre-trial detention center No. 1 in Tashkent. According to the press service, during this visit, the conditions created in the cells of young people in the detention center, their nutrition, accommodation, health care, and general standard of living were analyzed in depth.

During the monitoring process, group interviews and individual conversations were organized with children held at the investigative and trial stages. During the interviews, the treatment applied to them, how procedural rights are ensured during the investigation and trial, and the possibility of obtaining qualified legal assistance from lawyers were studied. A number of children complained about legal violations committed during the investigation and insufficient protection by lawyers.

The Children's Ombudsman took control of these appeals and began an official investigation in accordance with the relevant procedure. The prison has a sports field for young people, a library, dentistry, X-ray and CT rooms, and medical services are provided. Inmates also have the opportunity to order food online through a special electronic terminal.

However, as a result of the investigation, a number of shortcomings were identified in the cells: most of them are in need of repair, the number of some equipment does not meet the requirements, and the number of places allocated for the detention of minors exceeds the established norm. This has a negative impact on the general conditions.

The Children's Ombudsman announced that official documents will be submitted to higher authorities for taking action on all problems and shortcomings identified as a result of the monitoring.

The conditions created for minors in the pre-trial detention center were monitored with both positive and negative aspects.
