An environmental tax on 6 types of goods may be introduced in Uzbekistan

 According to the latest news in the field of ecology, based on the plan presented by the Ministry of Ecology to the President, environmental taxes may be imposed on the following goods in Uzbekistan. This new initiative serves as an important step in addressing environmental protection issues and effectively managing waste in the country.

According to the plan, environmental taxes may be introduced for the following products:

• batteries and accumulators;

• vehicles, including cars and other mobile units;

• lubricants, such as various types of motor and technical oils;

• packaging products and various types of packaging;

• tires and rubber products, including car tires and bicycle tubes;

• glass products, bottles, and containers.

At present, a large portion of waste is sent to landfills, which limits the possibility of efficient resource utilization. The recycling rate remains quite low, with the following statistics:

• tires — 17%;

• glass — 6.3%;

• plastic — 11.2%.

The annual waste volume is also significantly large:

• plastic — 1.8 million tons;

• electronic waste — 144 thousand tons;

• glass — 647 thousand tons;

• oils — 250 tons;

• rubber — 217 thousand units.

Experts predict that by 2035, the volume of electronic waste will increase by another 10 thousand tons. This highlights the importance of environmental protection in the country and the relevance of introducing the environmental tax.
