Number of Uzbek students in world’s top universities has increased

As of today, more than two thousand young Uzbeks are studying at the world’s top universities. This was reported by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at an event dedicated to the 34th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence.

According to the presidential press service, 750 of them study at the expense of the state through the “El-yurt umidi” fund, receiving financial support to study at prestigious foreign universities.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted: “Last year, our young people took first place in Central Asia in entering the world’s top 500 universities, which sincerely pleases all of us. It is especially difficult to express in words the joy of parents whose children are studying at the most prestigious universities in the world.”

According to calculations and analysis, over the eight years since Shavkat Mirziyoyev was first elected president, the coverage of higher education in the republic has increased from 9 percent to 42 percent. During this period, the number of places in preschool institutions increased to 2.5 million, and preschool coverage reached 78 percent. Thanks to the construction of new schools and expansion of existing ones, an additional 1 million places for students were created.

For reference, the “El-yurt umidi” fund was established based on the presidential decree in September 2018. This organization financially supports young Uzbeks studying abroad in prestigious educational and scientific institutions in bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs. In addition, the fund helps foreign-educated specialists find decent employment in Uzbekistan.

One of the main tasks of the fund is monitoring the work activity of personnel, supporting their professional growth and career advancement. This, in turn, contributes to increasing the intellectual potential of the country and accelerating its development.

In 2025, 600 billion soums were allocated from the state budget for the “El-yurt umidi” fund. This amount is planned to increase to 800 billion soums in 2026, 950 billion soums in 2027, and 1 trillion soums in 2028. These funds will expand support opportunities for young people and give them a significant incentive to study at the world’s most prestigious universities.
