Large-scale construction work is underway at the Namangan airport.
The pace of development in the region is evident from the airport, which is considered the gateway to the city. Currently, a large-scale and modern cargo terminal is being built at the airport. This terminal will allow the transportation of more than 50 tons of cargo per day and will serve the export of goods to more than 90 foreign countries.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Namangan region on September 16 and familiarized himself with the life of the local population and the development of the regions. His attention was mainly focused on the construction process at the airport. An investment of $140 million has been allocated for the construction of new terminals, border control and modern visa offices.
This project was presented during the President's visit to Namangan region last year. Today, construction work is being carried out at an accelerated pace. It is planned that the capacity of the new 3-story terminal will increase by 2.5 times compared to the current airport. Also, a business hall, retail and catering outlets, a medical office, and Duty Free stores will be organized in a modern style.
A huge cargo terminal is also being built at the Namangan airport. This will create a unified cargo system in the valley and significantly increase the region's export, business, and transit potential. For example, this year it is planned to attract 1.5 million foreign and more than 2 million local tourists to the Namangan region, as well as to bring the export of services to 210 thousand dollars. The exports of Andijan and Fergana regions are also benefiting from this process.
Special technical equipment is also being updated at the airport. This allows for the reception and high-quality servicing of aircraft of various sizes. Catering services, a gas station, and other utility buildings will also be built. The launch of new terminals is planned for next year.
The head of state gave instructions on the development of infrastructure around the airport in accordance with it. It was noted that, as in world practice, hotels, shopping and entertainment complexes, and all modern services should be organized around the airport. The task was also set to build parking lots and service facilities and expand amenities for guests.
