Waste payment will go online in Uzbekistan

Starting from January 1, 2026, in Uzbekistan, payments for the collection and removal of solid household waste will be completely transitioned to an online system. This measure will put an end to the practice of collecting cash payments from households.

According to the Waste Management Agency, this innovation is aimed at increasing convenience for citizens, ensuring the transparency of the payment system, and eliminating cases of corruption. The legal basis for this change is a decree approved by the president in January 2024.

According to the document, waste payments are to be made through the “Toza Makon” unified system, electronic services, and bank cash desks. At the same time, the decree specifies that if there is debt for waste payments, the possibility to pay for electricity will be restricted.

For residents of remote areas who cannot access the Internet reliably, the opportunity to pay via “Uzbekistan Post” and bank cash desks will be retained. Representatives of the Waste Management Agency emphasized that from 2026, any inspector demanding cash payment for sanitary services will be considered to be acting illegally.

As a result of integrating the “Toza Makon” billing system with the “Regional Electric Networks” database, debtors will be automatically identified, and their ability to pay for electricity will be temporarily suspended until the waste payment debt is fully settled.
