Uzatom Agency and Russia’s National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute” signed a strategic partnership agreement aimed at expanding scientific and technical cooperation in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. This was reported by podrobno.uzreports.
According to the agency, the document was formalized during a visit by an Uzbek delegation led by Uzatom Director Azim Ahmedkhadjaev. Ahmedkhadjaev noted that the agreement will enable Uzbekistan to directly leverage the experience and infrastructure of one of the world’s strongest research centers. He said it will support the systematic development of the national scientific school and the implementation of major projects serving the country’s interests.
The parties identified priority areas of cooperation as studying the potential of small modular and mobile nuclear power plants, developing nuclear medicine, and expanding radioisotope production. Research is also planned in plasma physics, thermonuclear fusion, the use of synchrotron radiation, and neutron sources.
The cooperation framework предусматривает introducing nature-like and “green” technologies, creating new materials for the nuclear industry, opening joint laboratories, and launching programs to train qualified specialists. The delegation also ознакомилась with the institute’s unique scientific infrastructure, including the T-15MD tokamak facility and a synchrotron radiation source.
Earlier, public hearings were held in Forish District of Jizzakh Region on the environmental impact assessment materials for Uzbekistan’s first nuclear power plant project. During the open discussion, participants were presented with the project’s key technical solutions.
