Green Space Project: Building Ecology and a Green Environment in Uzbekistan

The nationwide “Green Space” project has been developed to improve Uzbekistan’s environmental situation and fully optimize living conditions for the population. According to the draft “Uzbekistan–2030” strategy, the project is expected to help reduce environmental challenges, improve the microclimate of cities and regions, and create green spaces. Along with tree planting, establishing maintenance and irrigation systems is of particular importance.

The main goals set out in the project are as follows:

  • Plant 200 million trees every year and ensure their maintenance: This will help expand greening efforts and improve the environmental quality.
  • Increase the share of urban areas covered by green spaces to 30%: Expanding green areas will help improve the microclimate of cities.
  • Increase the number of green parks to 1,023: These parks are aimed at reducing environmental risks and improving the water supply system.
  • Have enterprises plant 10 million saplings each year: This will ensure that enterprises impacting the environment protect it by creating “green belts.”
  • Create 4,450 hectares of new green areas in Tashkent: Developing new green zones in Uzbekistan’s capital will shape a comfortable living environment for residents.

The “Green Space” project is not only about expanding greenery, but also about ensuring environmental sustainability by building irrigation and maintenance infrastructure that helps trees survive and thrive. As a result, the country’s environment will become cleaner and more resilient, and people will have the opportunity to live in a comfortable and environmentally clean setting.
