According to the Ministry of Preschool and School Education, teachers who teach foreign languages have been given an extension until the start of the 2026/2027 school year to obtain a national or international B2 certificate.
In 2021, the government decided that school foreign language teachers must have a certificate and initially provided a 3-year period to obtain it. Teachers with a certificate were also to be rewarded with additional bonuses.
In 2024 and 2025, many teachers did not receive their certificates and raised concerns. As a result, the government extended the deadline several times, and according to the latest decision, teachers now have until September 2026 to obtain the certificate.
Thus, starting from 2021, school foreign language teachers have a total of 5 years to obtain a B2 certificate. The ministry emphasizes that teachers should use this time for preparation and take advantage of the opportunity.
