US President Donald Trump signs the Peace Council charter

US President Donald Trump signed the Peace Council charter — a new international body effectively created as an alternative to the UN.

The signing ceremony took place during the World Economic Forum in Davos. It was attended by representatives from the Middle East and South America (Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Argentina, Paraguay), as well as Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

About 20 countries were represented on stage alongside Trump, and none of the United States’ traditional Western European allies were among them, CNN noted.

According to Trump, the Peace Council will cooperate with many other organizations, including the UN.

After Trump’s speech, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced that the Peace Council is now officially an international organization. The heads of state then approached Trump one by one to sign the document.

The Peace Council was designed as a post-war governing body for the Gaza Strip in line with Trump’s peace plan. However, its charter indicates it will have much broader functions and will essentially serve as an alternative to the UN. The council will be chaired by Trump himself, and countries are being offered lifetime membership for a $1 billion contribution.

Around 60 countries, including Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine, received invitations to join the Peace Council. On January 20, Alexander Lukashenko became the first in Europe to sign the accession document. At the same time, a number of European states are refusing to join because Russia was also invited.

Vladimir Putin confirmed that Russia received an invitation and said Russia is ready to transfer $1 billion to the Peace Council, created as a governing body for Gaza, using Russian assets blocked in the United States.
