Air quality in Tashkent may sharply worsen in the coming days

Starting today, due to the arrival of a cold anticyclone into the country’s territory, temporary deterioration of atmospheric air quality is expected. This was reported by Uzhydromet.
According to specialists, due to the slowing of air circulation and the possible formation of temperature inversion, pollutants may accumulate in the near-surface layer of the atmosphere.
It is noted that meteorological conditions that lead to temperature inversion are currently being observed in the region. This is explained by the sharp temperature difference: +5…+7°C at night and around +16…+18°C during the day. The city of Tashkent remains under the influence of a humid and relatively cool air mass.
According to analysis, in the morning hours fog, high humidity and almost windless weather are observed, which slows down air exchange. As a result, emissions may remain within the city.
According to specialists, under such conditions typical urban pollutants — emissions from motor vehicles, heating systems, fuel combustion processes and industrial emissions — accumulate in the atmosphere. Because of the slow dispersion of pollutants, an increase in the concentration of dust and fine particulate matter in the air may occur.
According to forecasts, this situation may persist for the next three days. By March 10 the cold anticyclone will completely cover the country’s territory. After that, due to the stabilization of air temperature, increased wind speed and precipitation, pollutants in the atmosphere are expected to disperse.
