Twice-monthly 'car-free days' to be held from May 1

A new initiative is being launched in Uzbekistan to improve the ecological situation and reduce the transport load in cities. Starting May 1, 2026, the 10th and 25th of each month will be designated as 'car-free days'.

In accordance with legislation, certain restrictions will be introduced for state civil servants within the framework of this campaign. Specifically, the use of service vehicles will be prohibited on designated days.

At the same time, if these dates fall on working days, drivers' salaries will be preserved. This is being evaluated as a measure aimed at protecting the social interests of employees.

Experts believe such measures are of great importance in reducing air pollution, popularizing the use of public transport, and fostering an ecological culture among the population.

It is noted that the 'car-free day' practice is implemented in many countries worldwide and has proven to be an effective tool for environmental protection and reducing traffic congestion.
