Uzbekistan Senate strengthens control over parole

At the plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the law "On Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts of the Republic of Uzbekistan" was reviewed. This document is aimed at ensuring human rights and freedoms, improving the penal system, and increasing the effectiveness of the probation institute. This is reported by Uzdaily.uz .
According to the law, changes to the Criminal Code strengthen control over persons released on parole. Now, they are required to periodically report to authorized bodies for registration. Additionally, the right to file a petition to cancel obligations imposed on a paroled person is granted to the lawyer or the individual themselves.
Through amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code, the procedure for canceling parole has been clarified. These issues are now to be decided by a judge of the district or city court for criminal cases in the area where the convict resides. The Penal Code has been supplemented with a new chapter defining legal mechanisms for supervising those on parole.
Amendments were also made to the law "On Detention During Criminal Proceedings." According to these, persons in pre-trial detention centers are granted the right to at least two hours of outdoor exercise on weekends and holidays, as well as the right to receive additional clothing and footwear. The amount allocated for purchasing food and essential items is being increased to one minimum wage.
Senate members emphasized that this law will serve to further improve the system of crime prevention and human rights protection in society. After discussions, the senators approved the law.
