Chinese scientists have tested a hydrogen-based explosive device
Chinese scientists have successfully tested a new hydrogen-based explosive device without using nuclear materials. According to the South China Morning Post, this device was developed by the Scientific Research Institute under the China State Shipbuilding Corporation.

The research used magnesium hydride, which is an effective form of hydrogen storage. The hydrogen concentration in magnesium hydride is more than 7 percent. When a conventional explosive is triggered, magnesium hydride quickly decomposes, releasing hydrogen gas and creating a strong flame.

A bomb weighing 2 kilograms was used in the test. The explosion produced a ball of flame with a temperature of more than 1,000 degrees Celsius that lasted for more than two seconds. The researchers say that compared to a similar amount of TNT, the fireball would have lasted 15 times less.

The creators of the new device say that it is possible to precisely control the force of its explosion. This makes it possible to destroy large areas in one go.
