Iran delivered a note to the US: political tension amid Trump’s threats
Geopolitical disputes between Iran and the United States have once again reached an acute phase. This week, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs officially handed a note of protest to the Swiss ambassador in Tehran, Nadine Olivieri Losano, for delivery to Washington. Major news agencies of the country, including Mehr, reported this.

According to analysts, this political letter may further increase tensions between the two countries against the backdrop of Trump’s recent statements. Tehran assessed the remarks of US President Donald Trump as “provocative and threatening.” Iranian officials emphasized that the words of the American leader contradict international law and the UN Charter, and pose serious risks to regional security.

The official statement noted that the US government is actively participating in Israel’s military actions against Iran. This casts doubt on Washington’s supposed reliable and neutral policy. The Iranian side assessed this situation as a violation of international law and demanded that the Swiss ambassador promptly deliver the note to the US leadership.

For reference, diplomatic relations with the US were severed in 1980 after the hostage crisis at the American embassy in Tehran. Currently, the Swiss ambassador represents US interests in Iran, and all official information exchanges between the two countries are carried out through her.

Trump’s statements on June 18 further escalated the situation. The US President repeatedly stressed that he had issued Iran a “final ultimatum” and that Tehran “must surrender unconditionally.” At the same time, the American leader stated that the United States completely controls Iran’s airspace and is aware of the whereabouts of the country’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

When journalists asked about the possibility of striking nuclear facilities, Trump gave a threatening and ambiguous response: “I can do it, or I might not do it.”

Observers and analysts point out that such tough political statements may further exacerbate the tension in US–Iran relations and create new challenges for regional security and stability.
