Citizens of Uzbekistan visiting Latvia will now have to formalize and notify the purpose of their trip in advance. This was reported by the "Dunyo" news agency.
It was reported that new amendments have been made to the Latvian Immigration Law. According to the new rules, starting September 1, 2025, citizens of third countries, including citizens of Uzbekistan, who have a Schengen visa or residence permit issued by EU countries, must fulfill a preliminary official notification procedure when visiting Latvia.
According to this procedure, persons who do not have a visa or residence permit issued by Latvian authorities must provide relevant information about themselves through the eta.gov.lv portal at least 48 hours before their trip. This obligation also applies to persons moving in transit through Latvia.
The visitor must personally register on the website eta.gov.lv and receive electronic confirmation of the provided information. This process ensures that the purpose of the person's trip and information are officially accepted by Latvia.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Latvia, the information that needs to be provided includes:
the purpose and main reason for the visit;
planned time and address of stay;
route and mode of travel;
contact details of the person;
the person or one of his family members held elected positions;
participation in elections as a candidate;
current or former position in state or local authorities;
Information about activities in the Armed Forces, special services, border troops, customs, internal affairs, the Ministry of Justice or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, including diplomatic services.
If a foreigner does not provide this information or provides inaccurate and incomplete information, then they will be held administratively liable. The new rule does not apply to persons with diplomatic immunity, performing official duties, or arriving in Latvia for short-term technical support.
