Colombian president condemns US strikes

Colombian President Gustavo Petro called US airstrikes on suspected drug traffickers in the Caribbean Sea an “act of tyranny.” He said that if it is confirmed Colombians were killed in the attacks, US officials must be held accountable.

US President Donald Trump described the operations as necessary to stop the flow of illegal substances. According to officials, at least 17 people have been killed since the strikes began. Legal experts say this violates international law.

Petro said there is no need to kill suspected drug traffickers. “The boat could have been stopped and the people arrested, that is not killing,” he said. UN experts also condemned the strikes as extrajudicial executions.

The Colombian president also criticized Trump’s policies. Petro called the strengthening of US military forces in the region dangerous.
