The UK government decided to officially remove bicycle theft from the criminal list due to excessive police workload. The number of cycling thefts in the country has increased so much that the police do not have the opportunity and time to quickly and effectively pursue them. This decision made a great impression on cyclists and residents of cities.
Now, if a bicycle, which has been parked for more than two hours, is lost, it is considered ineffective to file a complaint with the police, since no one will search for it, and the return of the lost bicycle is unlikely. This can cause dissatisfaction and anxiety for some residents.
The government's explanation stated that the main reason for the decision was the overload of police resources and personnel. Investigating such a large number of bicycle thefts simultaneously exceeded the state's control capabilities. Accordingly, legal measures will not be applied to lost bicycles.
