Thousands of cars were stuck in traffic jams in China for 24 hours

In China's Anhui province, thousands of cars were stranded in a prolonged traffic jam at the country's largest tolling station, Uchjuan, local media reported.

Despite the fact that the traffic was divided into 36 lanes in both directions, the travelers had to stand in traffic for several hours.

Traffic jams occurred on the last day of the 8-day holiday in connection with the National Holiday and the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The strongest traffic congestion was observed at the intersection of the G40 (Shanghai-Xi'an) and G42 (Shanghai-Chendu) national highways.

The Uchjuan station received about 860,000 vehicles during the week, the average daily traffic volume reached 120,000, which is three times more than usual.

Due to traffic jams, the journey, which usually takes 10 hours, has dragged on to 16 hours.

More than 60 evacuation and rescue vehicles were deployed to restore traffic on the roads.

Also, 20 duty brigades were deployed along the highway.

According to the Ministry of Transport, 2.43 billion interregional trips were made throughout the country during the holidays.
