This move was made to pave the way for the election of a new prime minister. The final decision was announced ahead of an extraordinary session in the lower house of the Japanese parliament.
Sigeru Isiba will be remembered as a politician who served as prime minister for 386 days and implemented important reforms. His resignation is expected to open a new page in Japanese political history.
For the first time in Japanese history, a female prime minister:
It is expected that Sanae Takaiti, chairman of the Liberal Democratic Party, will be appointed Prime Minister in the new elections. If this is confirmed, she will be the first female prime minister in Japanese history. Takaiti's candidacy is supported by the majority in parliament, which almost guarantees his election.
Before the vote, the Liberal Democratic Party managed to form an alliance with the Japanese Renewal Society party. This agreement helped Takaiti win the election.
New government composition:
The new prime minister will form the government at the end of the day. According to local media:
- Tosimisu Motegi, a politician who previously served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2019 to 2021, will return to the same position.
- Shinjiro Koizumi, the son of former Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, is expected to become the Minister of Defense. He will become the youngest person to hold this position.
In Japan, these changes are assessed as a step towards strengthening internal political stability and new reforms.
