Traces of a rare meteorite were found in lunar soil

Unexpected substances were detected in the lunar samples. Chinese scientists, studying the composition of soil from an area located in the opposite part of the Moon to Earth, discovered rare meteorite particles - elements of carbon chondrite, according to a scientific article published in the journal PNAS.

This result was published based on research conducted by specialists at the Institute of Geochemistry in Guangzhou. Scientists note that carbon chondrites are found in cosmic bodies rich in water and organic compounds, and they mainly come from outside the Solar System. On Earth, however, these substances are rarely found.

According to experts, this discovery could open a new direction for scientific views on the history of the Moon. That is, the Moon and Earth may have collided with more meteorites than previously thought. This allows us to draw a more accurate conclusion about how water appeared on the lunar surface and its source.

It is also expected that the identified carbon chondrite elements will contribute to a deeper understanding of the spread of water traces on the Moon, its evolution, and geological processes. The scientific team emphasizes that this discovery could be an important step in the search for water resources on the Moon.

For information, these samples were collected within the framework of China's Change-6 mission. The probe, launched to the Moon on May 3, 2024, successfully landed on June 2 at the crater of Apollo at the South Pole and took soil and rock samples from there. On June 25, it landed on Earth again.

Thus, China became the first country in human history to bring samples from the far side of the Moon, that is, from the side invisible from Earth. This mission is of great importance not only from a scientific point of view, but also from the point of view of geopolitical influence.

According to observers, this discovery will bring a new stage to future lunar exploration and will be an important step towards humanity's understanding of space.
