In northern Mali, active TikTok blogger Mariam Sissè lost her life because of her online activity, SCMP reported.
According to sources, in the town of Tonka, the young blogger — who had over 90,000 followers — was kidnapped and later executed by a group calling themselves “jihadists.”
Local sources and Sissè’s family confirmed her death. Reports indicate that she had been filming events in her area and sharing them on social media, which made her a target for the attackers.
It was also reported that she was accused of “providing information to the Malian army” through TikTok.
The tragedy has once again raised concerns about the safety of bloggers and freedom of expression in the country. Local citizens are calling for stronger protections for journalists and content creators online.
