As British, German, and French officials reviewed the new peace plan presented by the US regarding Ukraine, they were seriously surprised by the content of the document. According to Der Spiegel, the plan is initially unfavorable for Europeans, and within the framework of the G20 summit, several allied countries quickly agreed on their positions on this issue.
According to reports, other partners closest to Germany and Ukraine do not support the current version of the 28-point plan proposed by Trump. They emphasize the need for a radical revision of the document. European countries have already sent their own proposals and a revised draft to Washington, but the details have not been disclosed.
European Council President António Costa stated that the European Union supports the peace process, but upon reviewing the points of the peace plan proposed by Trump, he noted that many of them require serious revision. In this regard, he called on all 27 leaders to participate in a special meeting dedicated to the Ukraine issue during the EU-African Union summit.
The leaders of Europe, Canada, and Japan had previously acknowledged that the plan contains three or four important elements for achieving lasting peace, but at the same time, they emphasized that there are also enough points of great concern. Most importantly, they will absolutely reject the proposal to recognize territories such as Donbas and Crimea as belonging to Russia.
In conclusion, the US proposal could serve as a basis for Europe, but in its current form, it is impossible to implement it. The allied states decided to continue processing the document to properly establish the peace process.
