Heavy rains and accidents in Thailand

Heavy rains that have been falling in southern Thailand for several days have become a major problem for residents. According to information released on November 25, France24 reported that the tourist city of Khat Yai and nearby areas were affected by flooding.

The government has declared a state of emergency in the southern province of Songhla. The Department of Meteorology warned that the rains will continue throughout the week and floods may intensify.

According to the Department of Natural Disasters, torrential rains since the end of last week have flooded Khat Yai and a large part of the southern region. 13 people died as a result of floods in four provinces.

Local television channels are showing footage of rescuers evacuating people using boats, scooters, and military vehicles. Since November 20, more than 1,200 citizens have been evicted from their homes in Songhla.

Prime Minister Anutin announced that additional equipment and boats will be deployed to expedite the Charnvirakul rescue operations.

The monsoon season in Thailand usually occurs in June-September, but due to climate change, extreme rains are intensifying, making it difficult to predict the situation.
