Important political processes that could determine the fate of the Russo-Ukrainian war are proceeding at an accelerated pace. Negotiations between Kyiv and Washington on this complex issue, which has a serious impact on European security, are acquiring new content. The Financial Times, citing high-ranking Ukrainian sources, reports that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have agreed to reduce their ranks to 800,000.
This could be one of the largest military reforms in recent years. Earlier, the 28-point peace plan presented by the US administration proposed reducing the Ukrainian army to 600,000. During the negotiations, the parties, by mutual agreement, removed 9 items from the plan.
Tensions remain in US-Ukraine dialogue
According to reports, during the meeting with US President Donald Trump, the Ukrainian delegation plans to hold a detailed discussion on the most sensitive and controversial points. Among them, territorial issues and possible security guarantees for Ukraine are currently the most contentious points.
Zelenskyy's government, however, prefers to discuss the decision on territorial matters directly with Trump himself. Axios emphasized that a large part of the peace plan has been agreed upon with Kyiv, but it is precisely this issue of the territorial agreement that hinders the progress of the negotiations.
