US introduces financial incentive for voluntary departure of undocumented immigrants

The U.S. administration has decided to significantly increase the financial incentive for undocumented immigrants who voluntarily leave the country. Foreign nationals opting for voluntary deportation can now receive up to $3,000 as a reward. U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem officially announced this decision.

It was reported that this program will be implemented through the CBP Home mobile application. Immigrants who register via this app by the end of the year to voluntarily leave the country will be provided with a free plane ticket to their home country. Additionally, they will also receive a one-time financial bonus of $3,000.

Another important aspect—the registration process through CBP Home will automatically cancel any pre-existing administrative penalties. This will allow many immigrants to leave the country without facing legal repercussions.

Kristi Noem highlighted that since January 2025, 1.9 million undocumented immigrants have voluntarily departed from the United States. During this period, tens of thousands have benefited from the CBP Home program. Ahead of the New Year celebrations, the government decided to triple the reward amount, considering the interests of taxpayers. However, this offer will only remain valid until the end of the year.

According to experts, identifying, detaining, and forcibly deporting a single undocumented immigrant costs the state budget an average of $17,000. As such, the "voluntary departure" mechanism is being evaluated as a significantly more economical and efficient solution.

This approach aims to both reduce budget expenses and implement a soft yet logical policy regarding migration, the U.S. administration noted.
