Zelenskiy and Putin to speak by phone for the first time in 5 years
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy may speak by phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin for the first time in over five years, Fox News reported, citing a source familiar with the talks.

According to the source, direct communication between the leaders of the warring countries would be considered a diplomatic victory for the US president. The Fox News interviewee based this conclusion on the outcomes of the Trump-Zelenskiy negotiations.

The Russian and Ukrainian presidents last spoke in July 2020, when Kyiv carried out an operation to move mercenaries linked to the Wagner private military company to Belarus. After that, Zelenskiy tried to call Putin several times, but the Russian president refused.

On December 28, Zelenskiy met with US President Donald Trump. Trump stated that 95% of the peace plan’s provisions were agreed upon, but the Donbass issue remains unresolved. He also said Russia would assist Ukraine in its recovery.
