An unusual store permitting "legal theft" will open in Tokyo

In Tokyo, in March 2026, a stunning format store called "Hidden in Tokyo" will resume operations. This project provides customers with a completely unusual experience - the opportunity to "legally steal" products.

To participate in this unique experiment, participants pay only 1 thousand yen, which is approximately 7 US dollars. With these funds, buyers will have the right to take any product inside the store, regardless of its price or quantity. However, there is a single, but very strict requirement: absolute silence must be observed on the store grounds.

The store is equipped with special ultra-sensitive microphones that can detect even the tiniest sounds. The sound of footsteps, rustling of packaging, moving objects, or even heavy breathing is recorded by the system. If microphones detect any sound, the test is immediately stopped, and the participant has to return all the received products to their place.

Participants can also choose items that they can only lift with their own hands or carry nearby. The export of bulky or heavy products is not permitted.

This project aroused even greater interest than was expected when it was first held last year. Customers waited in line for hours to test their attention and dexterity. The organizers considered this experiment successful and decided to repeat it.

It is reported that the store "Hidden in Tokyo" will be open to visitors from March 13 to 16, 2026. This time too, the store is expected to become one of Tokyo's most interesting and discussed destinations.
