Are the US aiming for Greenland to strengthen in the Arctic?

According to The Daily Mail, Donald Trump is considering paying $1 million per citizen if the residents of Greenland approve the island's annexation to the US in a referendum. Since we are talking about approximately 57,000 people, this initiative could cost the US $57 billion (approximately 712.5 trillion soums).
According to the publication's sources, this plan is cited as an alternative to strengthening US military presence in the region. That is, the issue is not limited to economic proposals, but is also assessed against the backdrop of strategic interests.
At the same time, the Danish position remains unchanged: Copenhagen rejects the possibility of surrendering or selling Greenland and emphasizes that any decision regarding the island's status requires the consent of Denmark. "This will not happen. The US does not own Greenland. This is the red line," said Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lyokke Rasmussen.
