Russian, Ukrainian and US delegations to meet in the UAE, talks to be held at technical level

After tense meetings on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, it became known that trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia and the United States are being prepared. The meetings are expected to take place on January 23–24 in the United Arab Emirates. This was reported by podrobno.uz. reports .
On January 22 in Davos, US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky held a face-to-face conversation for nearly an hour. After the meeting, Trump said the talks went “well” and that “everyone wants the war to end,” before leaving Switzerland.
However, Western media are assessing the outcome cautiously. According to the Financial Times, Zelensky was unable to secure written commitments on security guarantees and post-war reconstruction. Documents said to have been pre-agreed with the Trump administration were not signed.
After speaking with his American counterpart, Zelensky delivered a sharp speech at the forum, accusing European leaders of indecision due to internal disagreements. He stressed that the situation has not changed over the past year and that Europe still lacks the political will needed for self-defense. Zelensky described Europe as a “beautiful but fragmented kaleidoscope of small and medium-sized states.”
He also criticized Trump’s proposed “Peace Council” initiative: according to Zelensky, Europe has failed to develop a common position on the issue, the council includes states with sharply diverging interests, and there is not even a ceasefire regime on the front line.
Calling on European countries to take tougher measures, Zelensky floated the idea of stopping and confiscating Russian oil transported via the “shadow fleet.” He also touched on Iran, saying that in his view the international community is not providing sufficient support to the people in their struggle against the regime.
The next stage is expected to be talks in the UAE. Zelensky described these meetings as a “technical-level” dialogue: under the plan, the three countries’ delegations will discuss the details of a possible compromise over two days.
Before that, US representatives are expected to hold direct talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The meeting is said to take place on the evening of January 22.
