The Israeli parliament, the Knesset, has passed a bill introducing the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners.
It is reported that according to this document, the method of hanging is provided as a type of punishment. The bill was considered in the decisive third reading and supported by 62 members of the 120-seat parliament. 48 deputies voted against it.
Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir openly supported this decision, considering it an important step. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is said to have also voted in favor of the law.
According to the state television channel "Kan," the law clearly defines the procedure for carrying out punishment.
However, the opposition and some political groups strongly criticized the decision. In their view, the law contradicts moral norms, democratic values, and principles of international law. Opposition representatives also announced their intention to appeal the decision to the Supreme Court of Israel.
Observers note that the adoption of this law may further complicate the political situation in the region and trigger wide international debates.
