A shooting occurred at a school in the Turkish province of Şanlıurfa, injuring 16 people

A serious incident — a shooting — occurred at a vocational and technical high school located in the Siverek district of Şanlıurfa province in Turkey. The event caused major shock among the local population and within the education system.
According to “Hürriyet”, an armed individual entered the school premises carrying a hunting rifle and began firing randomly inside the building and around it. The situation quickly spiraled out of control within seconds.
Şanlıurfa Governor Hasan Şıldak stated that a total of 16 people were injured to varying degrees in the incident. Doctors reported that two teachers and two students are in moderate condition.
According to official information, the attacker was a 19-year-old former student of the same educational institution. His motives and reasons have not yet been determined.
Witnesses say he entered through the main gate of the school and, using a long-barreled weapon, first opened fire in the outdoor area and then inside the building. It is reported that he shot at anyone who came in his way.
After the rapid intervention of law enforcement forces, it was reported that the attacker took his own life. Investigations into the causes of the incident are ongoing.
This event once again raised the issue of security in educational institutions.
