In Uzbekistan, the procedure for determining the ecological categories of motor vehicles and issuing special eco-stickers to them has been officially established. According to a government decree, pollutants emitted from vehicles will now be checked for compliance with standards and categorized based on their ecological class.
According to the regulation, the eco-type of each vehicle is determined based on the ecological class approved by its manufacturer. Categories are separated for gasoline, gasoline, and diesel-powered vehicles:
Gasoline and gas-powered vehicles:
"Euro-2" and higher - "clean" category;
"Euro-0" and "Euro-1" - "middle" category.
Driving on diesel fuel:
- "Euro-4" and higher - "clean" category;
"Euro-3" - "middle" category;
"Euro-0," "Euro-1," "Euro-2" - "harmful" category.
Hybrid cars, vehicles using alternative fuel, and cars less than 3 years old are automatically classified as "clean."
Environmental stickers - green, yellow, or red, issued by environmental operators in the State Road Safety Departments during vehicle registration or re-registration. Those wishing to receive them voluntarily can apply through the official website of the Public Security Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs or my.gov.uz. If the application meets the requirements, the sticker is issued indefinitely.
According to the new schedule, the distribution of eco-stickers in Tashkent will begin in January 2026. The deadline for the environmental assessment of all vehicles in the capital has been extended from 2027 to the beginning of 2028. In Nukus and regional centers, the assessment process will be valid until January 2031. In the remaining regions, the deadline for assigning vehicles to environmental categories has been set for the beginning of 2035.
As a reminder, according to a decision made in March 2024, the eco-stickers system was supposed to come into effect in June. However, later this deadline was moved to March 1, 2025, and now it will be valid again according to the updated procedure.
